Are all the German license plates the same size or do they come in different sizes? Also, if you install the plate in the spot designed by the manufacturer, do you have to drill holes or will the existing holes work? I have a comrade who will be coming to Germany with his Corvette and needs to know how to mount it.

Sind alle der deutschen Kfz-Kennzeichen die gleiche Größe haben oder sie kommen in verschiedenen Größen? Auch, wenn Sie die Platte in den Ort und Stelle von dem Hersteller, haben Sie die Bohrungen oder werden die bestehenden Löcher Arbeit?
Ich habe ein Kamerad, der wird kommen nach Deutschland mit seiner Corvette und muss wissen, wie man mounten.

As you can see from the pics above there are several different types and sizes of plates depending on the Nr./letter combination. This in fact is a big issue here as it is a kind of competition with our stubborn authorities to get the shortest possible combination and thus the shortest possible plate. And no, in most cases they do not fit the existing holes.

If your comrade comes over with the US Military he will most probably get a special Number and license plate reserved for US Armed Forces. Then he don't have a fitment prob 'cause these plates match US plate sizes.

the problem how to get short licence plates and where to attach the long ones if you don't have a cosy relation to the authorities is one of the big themes here in the forum (apart from oil threads).
When you get the standard size plate in germany you are indeed in trouble with the C5 (but also other corvettes). All solutions are more or less dissatisfying.

My option for the standard (long) plate requires no drilling into visible places of the body panels however you have to custom fabricate a plate holder.
