In general, every light assembly on that car must have the so called "E" marker to make that one legal for use. If not, that "lichttechnische Gutachten" may proof that this unit's specs are in accordance with the requirements for legal use. For example, a red side marker can't get that because use of red light for a side marker is not permitted at all.
So you need to check all your lights for that "E" marker, if it's there no worry. On your US head lights, there won't be one because GM makes Euro head lights for Euro spec cars. And there wont be a "Gutachten" because they usually don't meet the requirements and then GM could save money by producing only one set of headlight for all vehicles with that marker included.
At the bottom of that page you will see a example of that marker.

So check everything on your car, when it's missing disable it (side marker) or you have to buy EU spec units. There was time when things were a little different but that time is gone. And just because it worked then doesn't mean it was legal at all. Just that nobody really checked it in all detail.
