When I grew up the general opinion was that american cars are big consume extensive fuel and have got a very simple suspension with poor handling capabilities.
I haven't seen many american cars around where I lived when I was young. Being 20 I saw my first older Corvette in a classic car magazine - a C3 BB '72 - and I got infected with the virus. What impressed me was that the Corvette had independent rear suspension, disc brakes and a decent handling. The engine - despite being a simple pushrod design - impressed me. Simple but awesome in terms of enormous torque.
